On 5 November Prospect launched their “High 5 Heritage” campaign to convince the Government to invest in heritage and culture.
On 25 November Chancellor George Osborne will announce the details of his latest spending review. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will soon be making their spending decisions. Prospect fear that last 5 years of funding cuts in heritage and culture will be repeated, which will have a devastating impact across the sector as Museums and galleries could be closed and more jobs will be lost.
But Prospect say further cuts make no economic sense – every £1 invested in the Heritage Sector generates up to £5 for the UK economy whilst promoting social well-being and inclusion. They want all members, non-members and the public to assist them in getting this message across to the Chancellor.
Their aim is a simple one – between 5 and 25 November they want to see as many people as possible posting “high 5” selfies to the twitter hashtag #high5heritage and to copy tweets to @prospectunion.
