The publication of Historic England’s Planning and Archaeology advice document, which describes how archaeology works in the English planning system, is warmly welcomed by CIfA, which helped to prepare it in collaboration with other partners.
Written as an aid for officers and members of planning authorities, and planning applicants (including their advisers and contractors), the document will also be of interest to professional archaeologists, as well as local and community archaeological organisations.
Planning and Archaeology shows how working to CIfA standards, CIfA-accredited organisations and individuals can help meet the needs of applicants, planning authorities and the public they serve.
The guidance in the Planning and Archaeology document complements CIfA’s recently published Professional Archaeology: a Guide for Clients 2022, and CIRIA’s Archaeology and Construction: Good Practice Guidance.
