CIfA, together with ALGAO: England, have responded to the recent DCLG consultation on building more homes on brownfield land. While supporting the aim to build more homes on suitable brownfield land, CIfA and ALGAO: England pointed out that, by definition, previously-developed land has the potential to be of archaeological interest and any initiative to promote brownfield development must contain adequate safeguards to ensure that the significance of heritage assets is properly addressed and that such assets are adequately managed and protected.
