CIfA and the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland (IAI) have written a joint letter to senior Government officials in Westminster, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and to Brexit negotiators in Brussels, in response to yesterday's news that Prime Minister Theresa May has notified the EU formally of the intention for the UK to exit the European Union, triggering Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union.
The letter sets out the position of both Institutes regarding the relationship between the UK and Ireland, the economic, cultural and social importance of the archaeological sector, and the requirement of the Brexit negotiation process to seek to preserve the tradition of mobility between the UK and Ireland, particularly in the context of the present market demand and skills shortages in the sector.

This action comes as CIfA and IAI are seeking to develop the relationship between the two Institutes since signing a Memorandum of Understanding last year.
