Archive Selection Toolkit: A toolkit to aid in the selection of the working project archive.
Archaeological archives are an integral component in safeguarding the evidence of our past. However, pressure on storage space and curatorial resources have increased the focus on being more selective when it comes to what we choose to retain for future generations.
The Selection Toolkit has been produced by CIfA and funded by Historic England to aid practitioners in the formulation of an appropriate project-specific selection strategy, ensuring that the elements retained from a working project archive for inclusion in an archaeological archive are appropriate to establish the significance of the project and support future research, outreach, engagement, display and learning activities.
The Toolkit was launched at the CIfA Archives Group day conference on 20 March 2019 and can be accessed via the CIfA website here: www.archaeologists.net/selection-toolkit . The Toolkit provides a set of useful and flexible resources to assist archaeological practitioners during the creation of a project-specific selection strategy, as well as details on why the implementation of such a process is so important for our sector.

Training Workshops on using the CIfA Selection Toolkit
The CIfA selection Toolkit has been produced to aid practitioners in the formulation of an appropriate project-specific selection strategy, ensuring that the elements retained from a working project archive for inclusion in an archaeological archive are appropriate to establish the significance of the project and support future research, outreach, engagement, display and learning activities.
Training workshops on the application of the Toolkit will take place across the country this summer. Booking for the workshops will be opened following the CIfA conference in Leeds. The proposed dates and locations are:
12 June in Birmingham
4 July in Cambridge
24 July in York
21 August in Taunton
4 September in Manchester
18 September in London
